Biografias de Talentos Hispanos Para Nuestros Niños

Si queremos enseñarle a nuestros hijos acerca de las personalidades más importantes de nuestra cultura hispana, entonces Mónica Brown es la autora indicada. Sus libros infantiles son divertidos, dulces y educativos. Las ilustraciones fueron hechas por artistas de renombre complementando maravillosamente las obras de esta autora, y las biografías están narradas de manera tal que atraen a niños y deleitan a grandes.

De todos, mi favorito es el de Gabriel Garcia Marquez porque entremezcla la realidad del autor con sus trabajos. La magia de sus personajes y su vívida imaginación se ven reflejados en este relato sobre su vida. El libro comienza con una pregunta: ¿Te imaginas a un marinero náufrago viviendo del aire y de las algas durante ocho días? (Relato de un Naufrago), y a medida que avanza la historia, la autora va incorporando a sus páginas la vida del artista colombiano con detalles y personajes de sus novelas.

El libro se cierra con una hermosa frase: “A la gente le encantan sus cuentos y todos descubren lo mágico (y grande y maravilloso y fantástico) que el mundo puede ser”. Un mensaje lindo para nuestros hijos, ideal para abrir paso a su imaginación.

Quienes hayan admirado las obras de Garcia Marquez les aconsejo comprar este libro, leerlo junto a sus hijos y guardarlo en la biblioteca de casa. Cuando nuestros niños lean El Amor en los Tiempo del Cólera o Cien Años de Soledad van a recordar que fuimos nosotros quienes le presentamos a Gabito.

Otro de mis favoritos es el de Celia Cruz. El texto es rico en datos sobre la vida de la artista cubana porque se narra con detalle lo que fueron sus días en Cuba, que la llevó a dedicarse a la música, y como llegó a Estados Unidos. Es realmente un texto biográfico escrito para niños. El libro cuenta el significado detrás de su famoso grito de: ¡Azúcar!

“Cuando entraba al escenario simplemente decía: ¡AZUCAR! Y ellos sabían exactamente lo que yo quería decir: hogar, amor y muchos besos”.

Lo que tambien es maravilloso de este libro son sus ilustraciones, llenas de colores vivos y detalles hispanos dibujadas por el talentoso Rafael López.

Quienes estén interesados en este tipo de libros, también publicaron historias sobre la vida de la artista chilena Gabriela Mistral: My Name is Gabriela, sobre el poeta Pablo Neruda: Pablo Neruda, Poet of the People, y el brasilero Pelé: Pelé, King of Soccer.

Biographies of Talented Hispanic For Our Kids

If you want to teach your kids about the talented people from our Hispanic culture, then Monica Brown is the appropriate author. Her children books are funny, sweet and educational. Talented and acclaimed artists made the illustrations that complement her marvelous work. The final product is an amazing collection for our kids. Biographies are written in such a lyrical way that will engage kids and delight adults.

My favorite is the one about Gabriel Garcia Marquez because it combines both the author real life with his work. The magic of his characters and his rich imagination are reflected in this tale of his life. The book starts with a question: “Can you imagine a shipwrecked sailor living on air and seaweed for eight days?”  (The Story of a Shipwrecked Sailor), and as the story happens, the author brings up facts from the Colombian’s artist life and mixes them with details and characters from his novels.

The book finishes with a marvelous phrase: “People on all seven continents read his stories and love them and discover just how magical –and big and great and wild– the world can be.” It is a nice message for our kids, ideal to open their imagination.

For those who love the work of Gabriel Garcia Marquez I suggest that you buy this book, read it with your kids and put it in a special place with your books at home. Eventually, when our kids read Love in the Time of Cholera and One Hundred Years of Solitude, they will remember that it was us who introduced them to Gabito.

Another of my favorite books from this collection is the one about Celia Cruz. The text is rich in details of what used to be the life of this Cuban artist with stories from her days in Cuba, what brought her to music, and finally how she reached United States. It is a real biography written for kids. Also, the book tells the reason behind her famous cry: AZUCAR!

“When I walk out on stage I would simply say, “SUGAR!” And they would know exactly what I meant –home and love and lots of kisses.”

In addition the book has marvelous illustrations, full of vivid colors and Hispanic details, made by the talented artist Rafael Lopez.

So, if you are interested in this type of book, there are also more stories in this collection like: My Name is Gabriela (the life of Chilean artist Gabriela Mistral), Pablo Neruda: Poet of The People, and Pele: King of Soccer (the life of Brazilian soccer player Pele).
